Rebecca Corey - WCS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Rebecca Corey - Whitmire Community School (High School) Teacher of the Year!

"It is truly an honor to be recognized as Teacher of the Year from Whitmire Community School. I have the best support at my school and the fact that they see me as someone who deserves this title is truly a dream."

HOMETOWN: Irmo

HIGH SCHOOL: Dutch Fork High School

COLLEGE: Newberry College

YEARS IN EDUCATION: 7

FAVORITE BOOK: Verity by Colleen Hoover

HOBBIES: Outside of school I am an NRA instructor and RSO (Range Safety Officer) and work with scouts on the weekends. I also love to dance, travel, and craft.

IF I WEREN’T A TEACHER, I WOULD BE...As long as I can remember I wanted to be a teacher, so I did everything to help me reach that goal from Teacher Cadets in high school, then Teaching Fellows at Newberry College. However, it might be interesting to work with animals. I love animals and have two dogs and a bearded dragon.

FAVORITE LESSON: I love to teach polynomials such as quadratics because there are real-life examples of how it is applicable to situations. You see quadratics in sports like basketball or golf and in engineering when building a catapult or launching a rocket.

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS: I tell my students that they should embrace the belief that their abilities can be developed and approach challenges with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and improve.
